The Regional Economic Development Agency of Šumadija and Pomoravlje began the realization of the project «Making Migrations Work for Development» (MMWD) within South-East Europe program. The leading partner on the project is the Italian region Emilia Romagna, and twenty more partners are also included coming from Austria, Bulagaria, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Monte Negro and Moldova. The partners from Serbia on the project are The Regional Economic Development Agency of Šumadija and Pomoravlje and the Republic Statistics Institution.

The project is to be realized from May 2012 till October 2014.

The aim of the project is to enable the relevant responsible institutions on the local, regional and national level to get the best possible insight into the demographic movements / migrations, and also to improve their capacities to anticiapte the demoraphic changes and to strategically manage them with the aim of the economic growth and the chesion of the regions and cities of Europe, as well as with the aim of general integration of South-East Europe.

The local and regional authorities of the European countries are facing the constant demographic, economical and social changes and their impact on the cohesion policies and the competitiveness of the territory.  The need for active management of these processes with the focus on the improvement of following, planning and strategic approach has been expressed with the focus of directing the activities to managing the final effects and outcomes.

The MMWD project shall offer the relevant responsible bodies and institutions on the national, regional and local level concrete solutions and tools based on the accumulated data and analyses for migrations management, especially in the sectors which are to the biggest extent hit by the demographic changes: labour market, human capital and social services.
