On February 7, 2012, Regional Economic Development Agency for Sumadija and Pomoravlje, presented the main results and recommendations of the study “Youth Attitudes about Entrepreneurship”, in the Chamber of Commerce Kragujevac.
The research was conducted and the study developed by REDASP from October 2011 to January 2012, within the project “Young, employed and independent” implemented by BSC Kragujevac and funded by EU.
The target group of the research were young people from 18 to 34, on the territory of Sumadija, Pomoravlje, Raski and Moravicki districts. In total 516 young people were interviewed: 174 high school students, 101 university students, 193 unemployed, 28 young entrepreneurs and 20 teachers and trainers of entrepreneurship subjects. For each group of the interviewed, different questionnaires were designed, i.e. 5 types of questionnaires.
Some of the results of the study show that prevailing attitudes of youth are that entrepreneurship is a chance for all youth in Serbia, that one can make living of entrepreneurship and that it is a good choice for career development. On the other hand the prejudice are mostly present in the attitudes related to role of the money in starting your own business: “You need a lot of money to start your own business” and “It is the most important to have a lot of money to start your own business”.
One of the major myths about entrepreneurship, defined in the questionnaire as “You must have a brilliant idea to start your business” proved prevailing and dominant in this research too. 85,7% of the interviewees agreed.
About 40% of the interviewees believe that the good entrepreneurs are natural or born to be it, which is a significant presence of this myth, however, 85,5% of the interviewees on the other hand believe that it takes a lot of training and education to become a good entrepreneur.
